Changing Front Lamps on an Octavia MkII with Xenon Lights - Courtesy of Edward Sausage Fingers

The lamps used in this guide were -

Philips Silver vision indicators - PY21W
Philips Blue Vision sides - W5W
Philips Vision Plus headlights - H1

A word of caution - You should never touch the lamps with your fingers, the grease in your skin may cause damage to them. You should also be aware that Xenon headlight units contain high voltages.

The easiest way to get at these lamps is to remove the headlight unit. It sounds a daunting task but it really isn't.

The 2 red dots indicate a plastic screw (A) that must first be undone and then the lever (B) that you should pull towards the centre of the bumper, once you have done this the unit should be free to remove.

You need to undo the connection on the back of the unit, the plug can be a little awkward. The clip on the plug you need to free looks like this.

The main beam is under the rubber cover on the left (1), the indicator is under the cover to the right (3) and to get at the sidelight you will need to lift off the Xenon unit in the middle(2).

Once you get inside the headlight unit it should look like this.

To change the H1's, pull off the spade connector and then unhook the 2 wire clips at the top and fold the clip out of the way.

The indicator bulb is very easy to change, simply unscrew the holder change the bulb and pop it back in noting that it will only fit one way.

Now for the fun bit, the W5W's or as Skoda refer to them the parking lights. You'll need to unclip the 2 wire clips which requires some force. Then using a Torx T20 screwdriver, take out the 2 diagonally opposite screws. Lift the Xenon unit out of the way and you should see the sidelight. There are 2 flat clips that you need to push together and also pull gently at the same time, it helps if you rotate the holder through 90 degrees. Once out replace the bulb and push home.

An example of the finished project is shown below -
