Octavia A5 Common or Known Problems and Issues

This page is designed to collate information regarding known issues and if applicable the fix for that issue. If you have any info that you think would be useful to add to this page please Email Me with the information.

Rear Camber Values

Due to a number of complaints regarding rear tyre noise and wear on Octavia A5 vehicles, the rear camber values can be changed to the following settings -

Old values are:   -1°45' ± 30'

New values are:   -1°20' ± 30'

This information applies to Standard and Sport suspension.

Dual-Mass Fly Wheel - Re-Call

Cases have been reported of the dual-mass flywheel coming apart causing extensive internal gearbox damage. This is a known problem on Octavia A5 with the 2.0L 103kW engine and 1.9L 77kW engine.

Climatronic Clicking

A clicking noise can be heard from the Climatronic system, normally when the heating is cold. A simple adjustment with the dealer diagnostic system can cure this.

Squeaking / Creaking Door Seals

There may be a complaint of squeaking / creaking noises from around the door aperture on Octavia A5 vehicles, the fix for this is to replace the door seals with a modified part.

Aerodynamic Noise From Rear Side Door Area

In some cases, when driving, an aerodynamic noise from one of the rear doors may be heard. The source is probably the edge of the fixed glass in the rear side door. This can be fixed by adjusting the rear channel guide in the door.

Front Door Window Lifters Noisy

If a creaking and / or squeaking noise are heard whilst opening / closing the front windows and the noise is probably coming from window lifters, the noise is caused by friction between guide-rail and plastic cursors in the window lifter mechanism. Lubricating the outer part of the rail should stop this.

Front Electric Window Lifters Inoperative

This only affects cars with front only electric windows. The fault is normally a broken switch which should be replaced.

Maxidot Display Cuts Out

You may notice cut outs (in irregular intervals) in the external display of the symphony car radio's with single CD player. A replacement radio with software revision 0007 or later should be fitted.

Creaking Dashboard - De-mister Vents

The de-mister grid is composed of a decorating metal grid and a plastic grill. The different thermal properties of both materials as the consequence of the temperature changes in the vehicles interior causes' movement between the upper and lower part of the defroster grid. The frictions of both parts may produce loud cracking noises. Replacement grids of part number 1Z0 819 695 A 47H - left side 1Z0 819 696 A 47H - right side should be fitted

Defects With Air Mass Meter

If defects with the air mass meter on Octavia A5 vehicles with engines 1.9/77 kW, 2.0/100 kW and 2.0/103 kW occur, the original air filter is to be replaced by the new type and a water pipe modification is to be fitted.

Headlights - Water Ingress

If the headlight unit is equipped with a third ventilation hole with a rubber bend on the side closest to the radiator, then it should be replaced with a new one. Later models without this vent but that do leak will have to be pressure tested and replaced as required.

Cruise Control Intermittently Not Working / Not Working At All

If the cruise control intermittently stops working or does not work at all when driving Octavia II vehicles at a constant speed, it is necessary to check the fault memory of the steering column control unit (Address group 16). If fault code 00895 - "Cruise Control Switch - E45-faulty sporadic" is stored in address group 16, the cruise control switch is to be replaced

Drive Shaft Vibration - 1,9l/77 kW TDi PD With 0A4 Gearbox

In such cases interior noise may be evident (vibration) at approx. 1900 rpm and especially at approx. 2900 rpm. The solution is to replace the drive shaft to a revised one fitted with vibration damper.

VNT Turbo's Failing

There seems to be a few instances of the VNT Turbo failing on the PD engines. These are generally replaced by the dealers without problem.

Problematic Front Parking Sensors

There can be a problem with Front Parking Sensors not working correctly due to the front number plate holder being incorrectly fitted.

Squeaking Suspension

Some owners report a squeaking suspension, as yet I am unaware of a fix for this.
