Colour Coded Grille - Thanks to Dave W. For the Write Up

When I got my Octavia vRS, there was one area that I was not happy with and that was the grilles, everywhere else around the car the trim was colour coded to match the body colour.

The radiator grille and lower bumper grilles were plain black - it just didn't suit the blue car.

The Solution ???

Colour Code the radiator grille and the lower bumper grilles.

Just out of interest I enquired with my local Skoda dealer as to the cost of these parts. I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable they were - so much so I decided to order new parts and have them painted, that way if I decide I don't like the look I can return the car to original condition.

The Part's Required :

1. 1Z0 853 666A 9B9 - O/S Outer Grille - £2.99
2. 1Z0 853 665A 9B9 - N/S Outer Grille - £2.99
3. 1Z0 853 668 B41 - Main Radiator Grille - £21.03
4. 1Z0 853 677 9B9 - Middle Bumper Grille - £16.47
5. 1Z0 853 679 LAQ - Octavia II vRS Badge - £

All prices are plus VAT

It's a very simple job to remove the grille -

1. Open Bonnet
2. Remove Torx screw from rear of Skoda Badge(under bonnet).
3. Release securing clips(I used a socket to squeeze the clips).
4. Remove Grille - be careful not to break lower lugs in bottom of bonnet aperture.

Which, when removed will leave a big gaping whole in the front of your car!!

Next you need to remove the chrome surround from the old grille -

1. Remove the securing clips from the grille surround - you'll need these to refit the grille.
2. CAREFULLY prize the chrome clips away from the backing.
3. Once clips are free the only thing that holds the chrome to the grille are three long runs of trim tape along the base - carefully lift this and cut it with a knife.
4. Remove any traces of trim tape.

At this point you will have two separate parts:

Refit the chrome to the new coloured grille in reverse order, and you'll have something like this:

When refitted to car it should look like this:

And then comes the hard bit, removing the bumper grilles - they are only clipped it but they are very tight.

The outer grilles have a piece that folds around the edge of the middle grille, to remove them you need to pull this towards the middle of the car to release and then lift out the grilles with a good sharp tug using the finger whole underneath the leading edge of the grille.

The car after -

I removed the vRS badge from the old grille - CARE NEEDED, the badge is very securely bonded to the grille. I then used a hot glue gun to re-attach the badge to the colour coded grille, so far no issue's with it.

With the vRS badge now in place -

Thanks to Guy for providing these pictures of his car.

Thanks to Daniel Taus for providing some pictures of different colour cars.

An alternative option might be the Milotec grille as shown here -
