Enabling Both Rear Fog LIghts

The Octavia II has two rear Fog Lights as standard.  When the car leaves the factory both of these lights are fully connected and even have lamps in them however only one of them is enabled.

Tools Required - VCDS (VAG-COM)

Applicable Cars - Octavia II and other A5 Platform cars.

To do this first connect your VCDS to the car and carry out and save a full Autoscan.

Open controller number 09.

09_Cent_Elec_3C0_Open_Controller

With the controller open select Coding 07 which will open a new window like this

09_Cent_Elec_3C0_Recode_Module

From this screen you'll need to select Long Coding Helper and click into the 3rd byte which should look something like this

09_Cent_Elec_3C0_Long_Code_Helper_BothRearFogLights

As you can see we have to change Byte 3, Bit 1, make sure that there is not a tick in this box.  If you click the Bit 1 tick on and off you will see the numbers in the box marked Binary change between 0 and 1 hence the information shown in brackets.

Next we have to select Byte 4 which should look something like this

09_Cent_Elec_3C0_Long_Code_Helper_BothRearFogLights1

In this Byte we must place a tick in Bit 4 which is labelled Activation of both Rear Fog Lights.

Once you've made the change choose Exit to close Long Coding Helper and copy the code back to the Recode Module screen.  Once in the Recode Module Screen you should see the new long code inserted into the white box.  Choose Do It and VCDS will validate the code before writing it to the controller and returning you to the Open Controller screen.  At this point it's always worth doing a quick check for stored fault codes that might relate to the changes you've made.

Please note that if you have a controller with different part number and hence a different number Bytes it is possible that these options may appear in a different Byte/Bit to those described here.

To activate both Rear Fog Lights simply switch on the headlights and Fog Lights as normal.

Please note that the functions and bit/byte locations may vary depending on which version of controller you have. If you find a variation please contact me with full details and the VAG part number of the controller and I will add it to these instructions.
